We are pleased to present the e-Chronicle, a newsletter showcasing new products, suppliers, literature, and news from across the chromatography industry.
NEW SUPPLIER
Biorbyt – Biological Reagents
Biorbyt is a manufacturer of bioreagents and related products; included in their offering is an ELISA kit that is used as an
immunochemical test for the quantitation of Microcystins in algae or water samples.
NEW PRODUCTS
GL Sciences – Silica Monolithic HPLC Columns
Silica monoliths consist of a co-continuous structure of silica skeleton through-pores, where the pore size is strictly controlled
to within the order of micrometers. These structures provide higher porosity than particle-filled silica gel, the pressure is not easily
increased during pumping and the surface area is equivalent to that of particle-filled types.
Advantages:
- Lower backpressure per theoretical plate allowing for the use of longer columns to improve resolution.
- Shorter diffusion differences between the mobile and stationary phase.
- Less turbulent flows.
- Run analyses at higher speeds without loss of resolution or damage to macromolecules from shear flow.
MonoSelect C18 provides very low flow resistance and excellent separation performances, making these columns especially
suitable for high-throughput screening (HTS). The metal-free hardware delivers sharp peaks when analyzing metal chelators.
FEATURED PRODUCTS
UCT – QuEChERS for Fatty / Pigmented Foods
QuEChERS methods are well-suited for the testing of different types of foods, from cereals and grains through to highly pigmented
or fatty foods such as avocados or meats.
Additional, in-depth information on the use of QuEChERS:
- Remove plant pigments but not planar pesticides
- Eliminate lipids from QuEChERS extracts with a simple SPE column
- Combine dispersive SPE with centrifugal filtration to prevent the disruption of centrifuge pellets
CSI – Refurbished Instruments
Chromatographic Specialties is pleased to offer complete refurbished instrumentation, to give you great prices on GCs, HPLCs,
and more.
These systems are fully tested by our instrumentation experts to ensure smooth operation, receiving full preventative maintenance,
and made available as a turnkey solution for your lab. Almost all of our refurbished instruments are backed by a partial warranty.

COST SAVINGS IDEAS & GREEN INITIATIVES
Lower Your Carrier Gas Consumption with Low Pressure GC-MS
- Up to 3.3x faster than conventional GC-MS.
- Saves money by reducing helium usage by up to 81%.
Running capillary columns at very low pressure reduces the optimum linear velocity and the volumetric consumption of carrier gas.
Analysis times also drop.
Low-pressure GC-MS (LPGC-MS) uses a specially designed column setup, an advanced column coupling system, and vacuum from
the MS to lower pressure inside the column. This increases both sample capacity and S/N ratio, while allowing the use of shorter
0.53 or 0.32 mm analytical columns.
This introductory guide to LPGC-MS will help you determine if one or more of your methods is amenable to this technique that
allows for time savings, lowered carrier gas consumption, and improved limits of detection.

TECHNICAL TIP
A Guide to GC Column Selection and Optimizing Separations
Once you understand the basics of how resolution is related to column characteristics, optimizing your analysis for both
separation and speed becomes easier.
- Choose the right column the first time.
- Optimize separations for the best balance of resolution and speed.
- Troubleshoot quickly and effectively based on chromatographic symptoms.
You can improve lab productivity by assuring that speed and resolution are optimized.
This GC column selection guide discusses the basics of separation and teaches you how to choose the right GC column!
