Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA), Rhodamine, 5 mg. WGA comprises a group of closely related isolectins, with an isoelectric point around pH 9. The receptor sugar for WGA is N-acetylglucosamine, with preferential binding to dimers and trimers of this sugar. WGA can bind oligosaccharides containing terminal N-acetylglucosamine or chitobiose (structures that are common to many serum and membrane glycoproteins) and to bacterial cell wall peptidoglycans, chitin, cartilage glycosaminoglycans, and glycolipids. Native WGA has also been reported to interact with some glycoproteins via sialic acid residues (see succinylated WGA, Cat. No. FL-1021S-5). This lectin is used for the purification of insulin receptors and for neuronal tracing. This product has an appropriate number of fluorochromes to provide the optimum staining characteristics and is supplied essentially free of unconjugated fluorochromes. Rhodamine has an excitation maximum of 550 nm and an emission maximum of 575 nm.
