Restek Rt Fused Silica GC Columns
Restek Rt Specialty Fused Silica GC Columns
What Specialty Columns Does Restek Offer?

The Rt Fused Silica Columns are some of Restek's specialty columns.
Specifically they are the Rt-2560, Rt-TCEP and Rt-Chiral columns.
Rt-2560 column is a non-bonded capillary column optimized for isomer separation to ensure accurate quantification of critical cis/trans FAMEs.
Because the Rt-2560 stationary phase is not bonded, it should not be solvent rinsed.
- Stationary phase selectivity optimized for isomer separation to ensure accurate quantification of critical cis/trans FAMEs.
- Application-specific QC test guarantees consistent, reliable performance for AOAC 996.06 and AOCS Ce 1j-07 methods.
- Excellent sample capacity; no peak distortion means easy, accurate peak integration.
- Temperature range: 20 °C to 250 °C.
Rt-TCEP column is a non-bonded capillary column with an extremely polar stationary phase, ideal for aromatics and oxygenates in gasoline.
Most gasolines contain aliphatic hydrocarbons up to n-dodecane (C12). To improve identification of the aromatics and oxygenates, it is desirable to elute benzene after C11 and toluene after C12. The extremely polar Rt-TCEP stationary phase provides a retention index for benzene greater than 1100 and permits the separation of alcohols and aromatics from the aliphatic constituents in gasoline.
Rt-TCEP columns have the same high polarity as TCEP packed columns (precolumns in ASTM Method D4815 for the analysis of petroleum oxygenates), with the efficiency of a capillary column. The result is a column that can separate a wide variety of compounds with an elution pattern unattainable using other high polarity siloxanes.
The Rt-TCEP column incorporates a nonbonded stationary phase coated on a surface specialized for enhanced polymer stability and extended column lifetime. Solvent rinsing should be avoided. Conditioning is necessary only if the column is to be used at temperatures near the maximum operating temperature.
- Extremely polar stationary phase, ideal for aromatics and oxygenates in gasoline.
- Solvent rinsing should be avoided for this non bonded stationary phase.
- Temperature range: 0 °C to 150 °C.
Note: non bonded columns should not be solvent rinsed.
What are Chiral Compounds?
Any carbon atom that is bonded to four different groups is a chiral or an asymmetric carbon. Molecules containing one or more of these carbon centers are considered chiral molecules. Chiral centers can exist in two forms called enantiomers. These two forms are non-superimposable mirror images of each other. They have similar physical properties but dissimilar chemical and biochemical properties.
Rt-Chiral columns are Restek's bonded Rtx-1701 stationary phase with β or γ cyclodextrin added to it. They greatly enhance overall utility and column lifetime for their chiral columns, compared to columns that have pure cyclodextrin stationary phases. Separations of many chiral compounds have been achieved using their unique DEX columns, and their columns continue to demonstrate stability after hundreds of temperature program cycles.
Chiral GC Capillary Column, Rt-βDEXsa
Uses: Unique selectivity for esters, lactones, and other fruit flavor components.
Chiral GC Capillary Column, Rt-βDEXcst
- Proprietary stationary phase used for fragrance and pharmaceutical applications.
- Temperature Range: 40 to 230 °C.
Chiral GC Capillary Column, Rt-βDEXm
- General-purpose chiral phase with many published applications.
- Rt-βDEXm separates α-pinene, menthol, 1-phenylethanol, menthone and linalool oxides.
- Resolves menthol from menthone better than any other chiral column.
- Temperature Range: 40 to 230 °C.
Chiral GC Capillary Column, Rt-βDEXsm
- The Rt-βDEXsm separates 20 of the 21 tested compounds, with 16 being baseline resolved. This column provides very good enantiomeric separation of α-pinene, α-ionone, α-terpineol, isoborneol, 1-phenylethanol, 2,3-butanediol and linalool oxides.
- Temperature Range: 40 to 230 °C.
Chiral GC Capillary Column, Rt-βDEXse
- The Rt-βDEXse is similar in performance to the Rt-βDEXsm, but provides better resolution for limonene, α-terpineol, linalool, linalyl acetate, ethyl-2-methylbutyrate, 2,3-butanediol, menthone and styrene oxides.
- Temperature Range: 40 to 230 °C.
Chiral GC Capillary Column, Rt-γDEXsa
- Ideal for larger organic molecules.
- Useful for flavor compounds in fruit juices.
- Temperature Range: 40 to 230 °C.
