Non ionic detergents like NP40 are used in immunoassays for diluting antibodies to lower background, and non-specific antigen-antibody (ag-ab) reaction.

Application Notes:  For diluting antibodies use 1:1000 in buffers (1 ml into 999 ml). Washing buffer use 1:500 (1 ml into 499 ml). The optimum dilution should be determined by the individual lab. (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DILUTION OF S100 ANTIBODIES)
